Reports to: Carmen Rabon (Director)/Lead Teacher

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

• Assist in preparations of daily meals, if needed while maintaining sanitation rules/regulations and the Child and Adult Food Care Program requirements.

• Maintains accurate record keeping for attendance, CACFP (food program), NC Pre-K records, and other programs and agencies as needed for the class assigned.

• Assist Director in meal planning and ordering of food/supplies.

• Assist in multiple rooms as need to maintain child ratios and as directed.

• Maintain constant supervision of children while ensuring the health, safety, and welfare.

• Treat all children, staff and parents with kindness and respect at all times. 

• Help resolve conflict among children and model the behavior expected from the children.

• Educate and supervise children, within a play-based, developmentally appropriate early care and education environment.

• Assist the lead teacher in 

  • Enforcing age-appropriate classroom rules and activities that help children build independence and self-help skills.

  • Enforcing Bladen Early Learning Center’s policies and procedures

  • Maintaining cleanliness of the center to include classrooms, bathrooms, storage areas, kitchen, and playground in a neat and organized manner.  

• Deliver clear instructions and objectives of the activities to the children.

• Give each child the attention needed to assure his/her best welfare including needs related to learning experiences, eating, toileting, sleeping, playing, health care and safety.

• Keep personal, administrative, and medical information of staff, children and parents confidential.

• Work as a team to ensure all licensing, health and sanitation and accreditation standards are met.

Qualifications

• Must complete state required entry level training courses

• High school diploma/GED required; some college preferred.

• Completed or enrolled in 3 or more semester hours in early childhood education or child development. (preferred)

• Maintain training hours and certifications (staff credentials, CPR and First Aid, in-service, etc) 

• Perform additional duties assigned by the Director and Lead Teacher

• Maintain compliance with all policies and procedures of Bladen Early Learning Center

• Evaluate the physical, emotional, and social needs and development of each child and communicate any issues with parents and the Director in a timely manner.

• Help resolve conflict among children and model the behavior expected from the children.

• Educate and supervise children, within a play-based, developmentally appropriate early care and education environment.

• Plan developmentally appropriate activities balancing children’s needs for individual and group activities, physical and quiet play, child initiated and teacher initiated activities.

• Facilitate and implement lesson plans using the provided curriculum.

• Deliver clear instructions and objectives of the activities to the children.

• Offer materials for children to investigate/manipulate for use in learning activities and creative play.

• Develop and enforce age-appropriate classroom rules and activities that help children build independence and self-help skills. 

• Give each child the attention needed to assure his/her best welfare including needs related to learning experiences, eating, toileting, sleeping, playing, health care and safety.

• Keep personal, administrative, and medical information of staff, children and parents confidential.

• Assist in enforcing Bladen Early Learning Center’s policies and procedures

• Maintain cleanliness of the center to include classrooms, bathrooms, storage areas, kitchen, and playground in a neat and organized manner.  

• Maintain classroom inventory, supplies, materials, decor and bulletins boards.

• Maintain student files, attendance records and all other forms required. 

• Work as a team to ensure all licensing, health and sanitation and accreditation standards are met.

• Establish contact with parents routinely and as needed

• All child care center lead teachers must have earned the North Carolina Early Childhood Credential(NCECC) or its equivalent. Individuals must enroll within six months of being hired and will have 18 months from their date of hire to satisfy the NCECC or equivalency requirements.

• High school diploma/GED required; some college preferred.

• Completed or enrolled in 3 or more semester hours in early childhood education or child development.

• AAS degree in early childhood education preferred.

• Minimum of one year in a teacher or assistant teacher position. (preferred)

• Maintain training hours and certifications (staff credentials, CPR and First Aid, in-service, etc) 

• Perform additional duties assigned by the Director

• Maintain compliance with all policies and procedures of Bladen Early Learning Center

NORTH CAROLINA DCDEE REQUIREMENTS:

 

High School Diploma or equivalent

 

AND EITHER:

 

NC Early Childhood Credential (earned by completion of

EDU 111 and 112 or EDU 119 or EDU 3119 and meeting

above criteria)

 

OR

 

One of the equivalency options listed below:

1. JW Model (completion of EDU 111 and 112 or EDU

119 or EDU 3119 but did not apply for and/or earn

the NC Early Childhood Credential)

 

2. Tested out of the Division of Child Development and

Early Education NCECC standardized equivalency test

prior to 1/1/08.

 

3. Completed and hold a currently active nationally

accredited credential certificate to include CDA, CCP

and MACTE, AMS or AMI Montessori (upload a copy

of the certificate).

 

4. Completed a post-secondary two-year degree or higher

in Early Childhood, Child Development, Human

Growth & Development or Early Childhood Special

Education from an accredited institution of higher

education.

 

5. Completed a post-secondary two-year degree or higher

in any subject area with at least 6* sch in Early

Childhood Education and/or Child Growth &

Development from an accredited institution of higher

education.

 

6. Completed 12 sch (with or without a degree) in Early

Childhood, Child Development, Human Growth &

Development and/or Early Childhood Special

Education programs with at least 3* sch in Child

Growth & Development from an accredited institution

of higher education.

 

7. Awarded the DCDEE NC Early Childhood

Equivalency Certificate {effective 3/17/2023}

8. Completed and hold a currently active Level I or higher

certification on the Early Care and Education

Professional (ECE) scale issued by the NC Institute for

Child Development Professionals (upload a copy of the
